Mariachi

There's always some sort of fun to have while aboard the subway. There's almost always live entertainment.

Ahhh spring time. I took this picture on my way to Trader Joe's this morning. I love this Brownstone

Anniversary Cake

This isn't much of a cake but it fed 50 people. I decorated it while all my friends were hanging out awaiting the guests of honor for the surpise. I finished decorating in under 2 hours. The top tier was chocolate fudge cake with a chocolate ganache filling. I used fake flowers and my buttercream had melted pretty much so I had to make due with a squiggly design I made from the only icing tip I remembered to bring with...nontheless the couple loved it!

"To the Ends of The Earth"

This is a cake that I created for an art show. It was displayed in the edibles section of the exhibit. It took me over 20 hours to create this "cake sculpture" as I so aptly gave it's name. I learned a lot about fondant with this project. The cake stood a little shy of 2 feet high and 2 feet wide. I tried to keep it as true to a sphere as I could. This was the most difficult aspect of creating this cake. The globe is covered in fondant and the continents were stenciled and then carved in fondant and painted with colored buttercream. This cake fed 140 people. It was so much fun but also heartbreaking when we cut it! It did give me so much satisfaction knowing that the cake was plesant to the eyes and sweet to the palate. Enjoy.

Baby Shower Cake

This is my first large cake using fondant and plastic/modeling chocolate. It was a little easier working with modeling chocolate than I thought and much more difficult to work with fondant. I did attempt to make my own fondant since it is so expensive to purchase. I searched for a great & easy recipe and I found this to be a wonderful alternative since people love the sleek and modern look fondant offers.
