This is a cake that I created for an art show. It was displayed in the edibles section of the exhibit. It took me over 20 hours to create this "cake sculpture" as I so aptly gave it's name. I learned a lot about fondant with this project. The cake stood a little shy of 2 feet high and 2 feet wide. I tried to keep it as true to a sphere as I could. This was the most difficult aspect of creating this cake. The globe is covered in fondant and the continents were stenciled and then carved in fondant and painted with colored buttercream. This cake fed 140 people. It was so much fun but also heartbreaking when we cut it! It did give me so much satisfaction knowing that the cake was plesant to the eyes and sweet to the palate. Enjoy.
